Why Massage Should Be Done With Aromatherapy Oil

Egyptians and Chinese have a strong legacy of using aromatherapy as alternative medicine. Ancient Chinese would burn incense and wood as part of their religious beliefs and practices and even in today’s modern society many Chinese still observe these practices today. More and more people are turning towards alternative therapies like aromatherapy and massage because of high cost of traditional and conventional medicines.

The basics of using essential oils in an aromatherapy bath are as follows:

  1. Essential oils for aromatherapy facilitate equilibrium of both the physical, mental and spiritual health of a person through natural means.
  2. It has been observed that alternative treatments are considered as more effective as complementary treatments to regular medical practices.
  3. Aromatherapy uses concentrated essential oils and its essences have healing effects.

Essential oils for aromatherapy is obtained from flowers such as the rose, from leaves such as basil, twig, bark, fruit rind and many other parts of plants. Huge amount of plants or flowers are necessary to get some meaningful oil. Hence, cheap alternative is to use synthetic oil. It is observed that the synthetic oil does not have the same healing properties as their natural counterparts.

Therapist massages her client with massage oil and patient also smells the oil. Oil gets absorbed in the skin and it also impacts sensors related to smell in patient’s body. The time that the effect lasts on a person can vary from 3-24 hours to 2-3 days or even as long as week. Oils that have a short live time span in regard to their scent are Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Thyme and Bergamot whilst Hyssop, Lavender, Balm and various other oils can last between 2 to 3 days.

The oils that take as long as a week to completely evaporate are Jasmine, Sandalwood, Ginger and Cedar Wood. It might take 20 minutes to 3 hours for the oil to get absorbed within your body. Therapist normally recommends avoiding taking a shower or bath straight after any massage so that the maximum effect is received from the massage therapy.
Aromatherapy gives a sense of calm in patient’s life. Certainly by using essential oils during a bodywork session in a spa will increase the healing and calming effect and that’s improves the overall relaxation of the patient.

Point of Caution
Aromatherapy essential oil needs to be mixed with avocado oil, olive oil, sunflower oil because essential oil is highly concentrated. If the aromatherapy oil is not diluted properly, there is a risk of irritation and skin reactions on the person being treated

I always use Aromatherapy Massage Oil during massage sessions. I have 10 years experience in massage therapy and this gives maximum benefits.
